New, from UK breeder KWS UK, is Zircon – a specialist white wheat which offers excellent gross margin potential to growers and is a premium raw material for domestic millers.
Desired by UK millers for use in grists where a bright white flour colour is key, white wheat produces grain with a pale-golden seed coat and bright white endosperm. Milled as wholemeal flour Zircon produces a lighter, sweeter tasting product than regular UK wheats, with the added health benefits associated with wholegrain products.
Very high yielding whether autumn or spring sown, Zircon is an ‘alternative’ wheat, which offers a wide and flexible sowing window. Already National Listed, Zircon is performing well in Recommended List Trials, yielding above commercial milling wheats such as Paragon, Solstice and Tybalt from autumn sowing. Bred and developed in the UK, Zircon is an agronomically sound robust wheat.
During Zircon's development, we’ve worked closely with a range of millers and end users to learn more about the varied final products Zircon could suit. Such is the interest we’ve generated, that we’re now looking to partner with quality growers such as yourself to provide grain for harvest 2008.
Our target is to find around 20 partners to achieve a total of 400 hectares of Zircon in the post-roots slot this autumn. Seed stocks are limited making this a first come, first served offer to grow a low risk, high yielding variety for a premium higher than Class 1 wheats.
