Introducing Product Development Focus at KWS UK
The aims of KWS.pdf are to:
- Understand the performance of existing and pipeline KWS varieties both in the field and as end products
- Compare the performance of KWS material with other products available in or near to market
- Understand how KWS varieties perform year-on-year in typical UK-farm rotations
At the forefront of KWS.pdf is the product development field – a six hectare site located close to Thriplow which showcases our four core crop species, maize, OSR, sugar beet and cereals, in a four year rotation.
Introductory year – 2008/09
Working with our strategic partners BASF, GrowHow, Syngenta and Bayer 18 trials across the KWS core crops have been established:
Full results from these trials will be available online after harvest.
Key KWS UK Variety Introductions on the PD Field this year:
KRYPTON –the first conventional OSR from the KWS breeding programme with outstanding yields and the highest oil content in trials
EIFFEL – the high yielding conventional OSR with a robust canopy structure
FIORENZA KWS – the first and only sugar beet variety with double protection against Beet Cyst Nematode and Rhizomania
KWS CASSIA – the new winter barley set to raise the standard for 2-row yields
GRAFTON – the shortest winter wheat variety available which can be drilled early and harvested early.
