UK Position
The benefit of using BCN tolerant varieties was clearly demonstrated in 2008/09 in the first widespread UK strip trials on heavily infected farms. Results were assessed by Broom’s Barn and British Sugar. Across all sites, the mean adjusted yield increase for Fiorenza KWS was 39% above conventional varieties. This provided the host growers with an increase in sugar yield of 2 – 3 tonnes/ha. For this reason Fiorenza KWS is on the Recommended List with a special recommendation.
