Taking Action Against BCN
Use of nematicides is no longer approved in the UK. Widening the rotation will help but, in general, even a 4-year rotation will not result in a significant reduction in populations in situations where infestations are severe.
The use of catch crops such as BCN resistant yellow mustard and resistant oil radish can be used to provide biological control but have limited effect.
This leaves breeding progress and development of tolerant breeds as the most effective means of overcoming BCN infestation.
