Granary - High Quality & High Yields From A Spring Wheat Alternative
4th December 2008
Granary – the third KWS UK wheat to make the HGCA Recommended Lists this December – is a spring wheat.
“As a very high yielding breadmaking ‘alternative’ wheat, Granary offers growers the opportunity to capture significant premium potential across a wide range of sowing dates,” suggests Andrew Newby.
“Based on excellent specific weights and high protein contents in trials, it is currently placed at the top end of NABIM Group 2 for quality. However, this will be reassessed next autumn when more samples are available.
“Agronomically, Granary is early maturing with good sprouting resistance. It also has the highest Septoria tritici ratings of any alternative/spring wheat,” he says.
“With the flexibility available for sowing between late November and the end of April Granary offers an excellent choice for the grower.”
