United Kingdom Products Maize KREEL

KREEL

Fill the clamp without delaying maturity - Kreel stands out in any maize field!

An ideal all round combination of very early maturity and heavy yields make Kreel a leading candidate! The variety out yielded Ixxes by an average of 6% in 2008 trials, highlighting Kreel as a stable performer in a very challenging season.

Unlike the majority of NIAB Group 9 varieties, Kreel avoids the problem of a rapid dry down at harvest. This helps to avoid the risk of acidosis from excess starch in rations with a moderate to high level of maize silage.

Maturity:
  • Very Early – NIAB Group 9 (Favourable sites) Group 9 (Less Favourable sites)

Characteristics:

  • NIAB First Choice listing – new for  2010
  • Exceptional yields in its class (over 19 t/ha dry matter)
  • Slow dry down from 30%, preserving feed quality if harvest is delayed
  • Good early vigour

Quality:

  • Leading energy values (equivalent to over 210,000 MJ/Ha)
  • Very high relative starch yield (6.5 t/ha)

Recommendation:

Kreel is one of the highest yielding varieties in all NIAB trials, between 2006 – 09. It is suitable for all less favourable sites offering very reliable maturity and stable yields.

Kreel can also be grown as a short season variety on favourable sites, either sown after a spring silage cut, or where a very early harvest is required.

Drilling Information:

  • Kreel should be drilled at between 42 – 45,000 seeds / ac (104 – 111,000 seeds / ha) using standard row widths. For growers using narrow row widths, seed rates of up to 50,000 seeds / ac are recommended.
