Spartacus has proved a reliable performer for consistent yields of early silage since 2004. And continues to offer a leading combination of high starch content and digestibility. For a reliable early variety with excellent forage quality, Spartacus remains the winner.


Maturity:
  • Early – NIAB Group 8 (Favourable sites) Group 8 (Less Favourable sites)

Characteristics:

  • NIAB First Choice listing for 2010
  • Reliable on all sites (yielding over 17 t/ha dry matter in NIAB trials)
  • Early maturity with good harvest window
  • Excellent early vigour (7.5)
  • Good standing power

Quality:

  • Very high starch content (over 35% on all sites)
  • Excellent whole plant digestibility (equivalent to 11.3 ME)

Recommendation:

Spartacus is recommended for all less favourable sites, and performs best on medium to lighter soils. Spartacus can also be grown on favourable sites where a very early harvest is required.
