The Landmark Variety
Eiffel is an open pollinating variety bred by Momont
Eiffel, like its namesake tower, has an exceptional architectural structure designed to help it withstand the wind. Add to this its excellent straw strength and lodging resistance, and Eiffel’s canopy holds pods safe and secure prior to direct cutting.
With a high gross output and oil content, Eiffel will slot in to most farm plans as an ideal replacement for Castille – maximising bottom-line profits from a crop structure that you know you can rely on.
High Yields – High Oils
In HGCA East & West Region trials, Eiffel stands at 103% of controls for gross output; some 6% ahead of Castille. Untreated it is 10% ahead of Castille.
This performance is as a result of Eiffel’s higher seed yield and an oil content that is 1.7% above Castille. So, expect Eiffel to provide a big oil premium on farm.
This means that with oilseed rape currently valued at £375/t (as of December 2010), Eiffel provides gross outputs that are worth £160-170/ha more than that commonly secured by Castille.
Indeed in terms of total oil production, Eiffel gives an extra £480 over Castille for every lorry load you deliver.

Agronomically strong, Eiffel has an excellent canopy biomass and strength, backed by good resistance to stem canker, which precludes the need to swath.
With slightly later maturity than Castille, Eiffel will also help spread the workload.
Taking all characters into account, by selecting Eiffel as part of your planting plans you can be sure of a Castille-like canopy but with significant yield improvement.
