Still Taking the Biscuit
Backed by seven year’s commercial experience, Robigus remains a market leading Group 3 type on farm.
It is widely used in UK biscuit grists, as well as being a mainstay for the distilling market and a leading UKS export wheat.
Robigus’ range of established uses mean it will secure attractive premiums from UK biscuit and cake manufacturers as well as overseas millers.
High Yielding First Wheat
Robigus should really only be grown as a first wheat. In this rotational position it is one of the highest yielding Group 3 varieties on the HGCA Recommended List and one that growers are familiar with.
Long Grain-Fill Capacity
Robigus is a high tillering type with good green leaf retention and long grain-fill characteristics.
Even under severe early season drought, it maintains more viable tillers than most wheats. As it matures, it is capable of filling these to maximum potential, providing high yields even in dull, damp summers.
Robigus’ high tillering capacity also gives valuable suppression of grass weeds especially in difficult resistant blackgrass situations.
As a moderately fast maturing variety, Robigus performs well when drilled from mid-September in the first wheat position.
Robigus is resistant to Orange Wheat Blossom Midge. This negates spraying for the pest in all bar the highest pressure situations.
Disease Resistance
Robigus responds to a comprehensive fungicide programme due to its susceptibility to yellow rust.
Serious consideration should be given to selecting systemic seed treatments such as Jockey or Galmano that will delay yellow rust development and straw strength.
Early protection at the T0 and T1 stage is the best course of action and this should be followed by T2 and T3 fungicides that are again capable of controlling rust.
The use of a fungicide that also targets eyespot may also need to be considered.
