Characteristics

About

Like its parent, KWS Santiago, KWS Kerrin has made a strong name for itself in the Group 4 hard feed market. By providing consistent performance across regions, soil types and drilling dates; it is a variety that is reliable and has proven very popular with farmers across the UK. KWS Kerrin requires a good fungicide programme to fully harness its true yield potential and comes with resistance to OWBM. Later sowing varieties has the benefit of increasing Septoria resistance; by sowing KWS Kerrin mid-October onwards 0.5 to 1 point in resistance can be effectively added. Additionally, KWS Kerrin has a good specific weight at 76.1 kg/ hl and has a similar plant type and growth habit to KWS Santiago. Commercial experience supports our own data, suggesting that KWS Kerrin also has good resistance to sprouting (5).
Kerrin has topped my wheat trial for the last 3 yrs and performs well on farm. Its consistent high yield is exactly what I look for in a feed wheat
