The UK's leading HEAR Variety
Marcant is bred by LS Plant Breeding
The introduction of the first hybrid HEAR variety was welcome news for specialist oil growers who have been quick to grasp its potential on farm.
As a result, with its exceptionally high erucic acid levels and very high yields, Marcant took over half of the HEAR market last autumn.
Quite simply, Marcant provides growers with all the premium benefits of a HEAR without the typical yield loss expected from conventional HEAR varieties.
Exceptional Yield and Quality
Over the last three years Marcant has out-yielded other conventional HEAR's by at least 8%. At 111% of controls, it is significantly ahead of Zeruca, Maplus and Hearty as well as newcomer Helico.
At the same time as filling the barn, Marcant erucic acid content is exceptional and significantly ahead of established industry standard varieties.
Combine yield, oil and erucic acid content to equate an erucic acid yield output figure and Marcant stands well ahead of standard varieties, helping to maximise performance in the manufacturing process.
Easy to Grow
Marcant is a medium height variety - 10cm taller than Castille - with excellent straw strength and lodging resistance as well as excellent autumn and spring vigour.

In comparison to previous conventional HEAR varieties, Marcant offers improved resistance to LLS and stem canker.
And, with both medium flowering and maturity ratings, early frost risks are minimised and Marcant provides a good pod-fill period without compromising harvest date.
